Summary: Plant-parasitic nematodes, particularly the genus Meloidogyne spp., known as root-knot nematodes, significantly impact global agriculture, causing economic losses. The genus Meloidogyne comprises over 100 species, affecting a wide range of hosts, including the papaya tree (Carica papaya Linn.). The papaya tree is a fruit-bearing plant of commercial importance due to its nutritional and medicinal value. In situations where the population density of the plant-parasitic nematodes is high, they can cause damage to approximately 20% of papaya cultivations in Northeast Brazil. The dissertation contains two chapters; the first titled "Bibliometric analysis of phytonematology focused on the Meloidogyne genus in the last 10 years" aims to assess all global metrics of nematological studies conducted in the past decade. The second chapter is titled "Population impact of Meloidogyne spp. on papaya cultivation intercropped with coffee plants." This study was directed at surveying the population of Meloidogyne spp. in papaya cultivation cv. Alliance in southern Bahia and assessing the potential impacts on the crop. Therefore, there are gaps in studies on the Meloidogyne genus, especially concerning papaya cultivation. Crops infested by this pathogen face significant economic damages.
