Summary: Nematodes can be found in the most diverse environments, some are beneficial and help to control disease-causing organisms in plants. Phytoparasitic nematodes are found widely disseminated throughout Brazil, and are considered responsible for the reduction of production and commercial value of several agricultural products, including fruit. Papaya (Carica Papaya Linn.) is a tropical fruit with commercial importance for its nutritional and medicinal value. Nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne and those of the genus Rotylenchulus (reniform nematodes) are the most common in the world in the cultivation of papaya, being Meloidogyne spp. the most aggressive, affecting around 20% losses in papaya trees with high infestation in northeastern Brazil. The dissertation was divided into two chapters, the first entitled \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Bibliometric evaluation of nematology focused on the papaya crop\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" which shows all the metrics of nematological studies around the world in recent years. The second chapter was entitled “Impact of the population of Meloidogyne spp. in papaya crop intercropped with conilon coffee” This study was aimed at a population survey of Meloidogyne spp. in commercial farming of Carica papaya Linn. cv Aliança in southern Bahia state and possible impacts on the crop. Root samples were collected from 40 random plants and two distinct periods on a property in southern Bahia and taken to the Phytopathological Analysis Laboratory at UFES campus Ceunes. This property was managed by the intercropping of papaya and coffee and the chosen area had high root-knot nematode infestation. The stem diameter of the plants, the number of leaves, number of fruits, average weight of 3 fruits (PMF) and the population of Meloidogyne in each sampled plant were evaluated. Data were computed and submitted to descriptive analysis in the RStudio® software and linear regression analysis in order to establish relationships between the collected variables. The population ranged from 69 to 28351 individuals, and the regression had a moderate to low effect on the characteristics evaluated with R2 ranging from 0.0336 for number of fruits and 0.8786 for diameter.
