Summary: The search for highly productive and adapted genotypes for each producing region
has driven the work of characterization and selection of superior and divergent
genotypes. Understanding the genetic diversity in Coffea canephora, using the
information obtained can favor the best reproductive management of crops, in
addition to assisting breeding programs. Thus, considering the economic importance
of the crop, the objective was to evaluate the genetic diversity of C. canephora based
on nutritional characteristics for the first study and floral characteristics for the
second. The first study, entitled “Genetic diversity in C. canephora genotypes for leaf
nutrient concentration”, aimed to evaluate the leaf nutrient concentration in coffee
genotypes in the pre-flowering and filling of coffee beans. The second, entitled
"Genetic diversity in C. canephora based on floral morphological characteristics",
aimed to evaluate the genetic diversity existing in Conilon coffee genotypes based on
floral morphological characteristics. For both studies, multivariate analysis was
performed, and it was found that there is genetic diversity among C. canephora
genotypes based on leaf nutrient concentration, as well as for floral morphological
characteristics. Adopting a maximum limit of 60% of dissimilarity between the
genotypes, the formation of four and three groups was observed by the UPGMA
method for the foliar concentration of nutrients and floral morphological
characteristics, respectively. Based on the results obtained and the information
generated, the studies can serve as a basis for helping nutritional management and
understanding the process of cross-pollination and reproduction of C. canephora.
Also, assist in the use of genetic resources of interest in genetic improvement
programs.
